One Day CPD: Working Therapeutically with Eating Disorders

Looking at Food Addiction and Binge Eating – Rochelle Craig: 10am – 4pm.

 

The aim of the CPD is to provide an understanding of a therapeutic treatment for obesity incorporating the bio-psychosocial spiritual 12-step model, and how to integrate this model of treatment into your own practice

This CPD is aimed at Counsellors, Nurses, Psychologists, Dieticians, Nutritionist, Psychotherapists, Family Therapists, Youth Workers, Trainee Therapists, Social Workers, General Practitioners. Etc.

These One Day Workshops will be of interest to those health professionals faced with the growing problem of working with overweight / obese clients or clients that appear to be preoccupied with weight issues / poor body image.

Also, those who present as underweight / food restricting / purging.

CPD Working Therapeutically with Obesity – looking at Food Addiction and Binge Eating Disorder

Aims and Objectives

To gain an understanding of a therapeutic treatment for obesity and how this programme can be integrated and delivered to this specific client group as follows:

  1. Look at the similarities between substance abuse and Binge Eating Disorder (BED) aka Compulsive Overeating.
  2. Understanding and demonstration of The Cycle of Addiction.
  3. Essential features of BED/Assessment tool for BED.
  4. Bingeing and Bulimia.
  5. How does Group Therapy help?
  6. The solution: Investigate family history of eating, relationship with food, attitude towards weight and body image, build on self-esteem, encourage openness, honesty, and acceptance, motivate willingness to change, plan and structure food/meals & physical activity, discover behaviours and thought processes that tend to pre-empt a binge, investigate other obsessive behaviours, learn about triggers, implement tools to aid recovery.
  7. An introduction and overview of the 12-Step Facilitation Model and its value as a support during and after therapeutic treatment.
  8. Interactive Workshop.

Rochelle works with all addictions with a special interest in food addiction / overeating / obesity. Qualifying and working in this area began as a result of my own suffering from addiction and ultimately getting into recovery. Today feels privileged to be working in this particular field sharing her experience, strength, optimism and professional knowledge in the unwavering hope that all her clients will walk free from the chains of addiction.


The basic technique used is The Minnesota Method. This method is fundamental in the treatment of addiction. It is a holistic approach dealing with the mental, physical, emotional and spiritual aspect of addiction.

It has a basis in the 12-step model which stresses abstinence, group therapy, cognitive and behavioural change and accepting and giving support to others in the same situation.

Rochelle has a Masters Degree in Addiction Counselling, and is fully accredited with The Federation of Drug & Alcohol Professionals.
Rochelle has worked in an addictions treatment centre since 2004 and is the lead counsellor / group facilitator for the eating disorders / food addiction group.

Rochelle is fully experienced in working with all addictions and has a special interest in working with eating disorders/obesity.
