Family counselling

"Family quarrels are bitter things. They don't go according to any rules. They're not like aches or wounds, they're more like splits in the skin that won't heal because there's not enough material." F. Scott Fitzgerald

There are times when every family experiences stress and even trauma at times, anyone of these concerns can place a degree of pressure within the dynamics of the family structure.

A trauma could be anything from:

  • divorce
  • bereavement
  • serious illness
  • mental health issues
  • behavioural problems

What each trauma has in common is the sense of loss it places on every member of the family. Whilst one family member may feel one way, another is likely to be affected and react in a totally different way.

This sense of mis-alignment can have a real impact on family dynamics – leading individuals to question what ‘family’ is all about, or with a feeling that our family does not live up to expectations. We may feel sad, disappointed and frustrated with the very people we expect to give us the greatest level of support.

It can be hard to turn things around from here. Family counselling can help everyone involved to air their personal views and feelings in an impartial, confidential environment. With support from our experienced family therapist, the whole family can begin to identify and address the issues causing the lack of harmony.
