Kate Dorward MBACP

A gentle touch in a harsh world.

Ms. Kate Dorward
Therapeutic Counsellor MBACP
Clinical Supervisor OCN
Trainee Systemic Practitioner Post Grad

I am a qualified therapeutic counsellor with over 15 years’ experience of working with both adults and young people offering a professional and confidential service where first and foremost you will feel heard and understood.

Good counselling will feel safe, supportive, compassionate and free from judgements or assumptions. With the right conditions, we can explore, understand and reflect on your current situation or any experiences you find yourself carrying or repeating.

Through the counselling process, you will have the opportunity to develop insight and self-awareness empowering you to find the answers or resolutions that are right for you and which will enable you to positively move forward in your life.

There are many reasons that bring people to counselling and there are many different ways in which therapists work.  This can make it difficult when choosing a therapist to work with therefore I encourage you to arrange a free telephone consultation so we can talk about your needs and expectations and you can gain an understanding of how I work.  You will be able to ask any questions you may have about therapy and this will allow us both to make an informed decision about working together.

I offer both short-term and long-term counselling working with issues including, but not limited to, stress, anxiety, depression, anger, self-harm, self-esteem, relationship issues, and childhood issues.  I also have a good working knowledge of more complex Mental Health issues.

As a member of the BACP, I work within their Ethical Framework for Good Practice.  I recommend you have a look at their website to gain an understanding of what to expect from your chosen therapist: https://www.bacp.co.uk/about-therapy/what-happens-in-therapy/.  I am also a student member of the Association of Family Therapists as I am currently studying to gain my Family Systemic Therapy qualification.

Alongside my private practice, I currently work as a specialist mental health practitioner for the NHS. Previously I have managed services for Wellingborough Mind, Kettering Youth Information Services, and CHUMS. Within all these charitable counselling organisations I was responsible for managing, monitoring, and supporting a team of counsellors in a busy counselling service.

Prior to this role, I worked as a counsellor for a local secondary school where I worked with young people aged 11-18.
I began my counselling career with Kettering Youth Information as a student counsellor and I progressed to Team Leader, supporting the team of counsellors and managing the counselling service.

If you would like to know more about how we can work together please do contact me.
